We will introduce a case study of improvement in abnormal detection of overhead wires using deep learning. At Tokyo Electric Power Grid, abnormality detection was performed by humans visually inspecting aerial footage as part of overhead wire inspection and equipment maintenance work. The visual confirmation involved slow playback of the aerial video at one-tenth speed, making the inspection process very costly, and there were also issues with accuracy due to missed detections. To address this, a model was developed using deep learning to determine abnormalities and normal conditions from image data. By quantifying and visualizing the "abnormality" of the overhead wires, AI was able to identify areas that required human visual confirmation, resulting in a reduction in the costs associated with visual inspections.

Electromagnetic field analysis (FEA) is a powerful tool for motor design and development, capable of considering magnetic saturation and dq-axis interference. Permanent magnet (PM) motors are typically driven by control circuits, and fast coupled analysis is required. At our company, we leverage the high speed and accuracy of EMSolution to create behavior models. By using behavior models based on FEA results, we can simulate behaviors equivalent to those of actual machines. Additionally, control coupled analysis often involves thousands to tens of thousands of steps, which can take several hours for direct coupled analysis with FEA. It can be used to improve the occupational safety and health of workers and to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.

The package designed for use at the work site differs from those intended for other scientific investigations by employing a tablet PC for device control. The dedicated application features an interactive device setup that allows for intuitive use. Once data measurement is conducted, a statistical and visually comprehensible report can be generated with just a few taps. It is also easy to attach to the worker; without the need for a specialized suit, a motion sensor the size of a matchbox can be securely and comfortably fixed using a dedicated strap. For those whose work primarily involves stationary tasks, a version with 9 sensors for the upper body is used, while a full-body version with 15 sensors is employed for tasks involving movement or lifting from ground level. Once accustomed to the setup, the full-body version can be prepared in about five minutes, allowing for immediate assessment of the worker and the work environment. By comparing data from individual workers, it is possible to identify differences and risks between experienced and novice workers, and by statistically analyzing data from multiple workers in the same workplace, the risks associated with that workplace can be assessed.
